About

Richard Parker is the owner and Principal Geophysicist at Parker Geophysical Consulting LLC, based in Houston. He has over 30 years of geophysical experience over half of which has been in unconventional reservoirs. He is a leading expert in borehole seismic, crosswell tomography and microseismic monitoring. With two patents and several publications to his name, Richard is an innovative and experienced geophysicist with global domain recognition.

After graduating from the University of Leeds in the UK with a master’s degree in Exploration Geophysics in 1987, Richard began his career with Seismograph Service Ltd (later to be incorporated into WesternGeco) as a processing Geophysicist. Working on land and marine 2D and 3D surveys, he was involved in projects from around the world. During this time he was seconded to the Tripoli (Libya) office for a short-term assignment gaining valuable field experience. In 1991 he successfully applied for the position of borehole seismic processor with Schlumberger. Over the next 29 years with SLB he spent 10 years in London, 15 years in Calgary and, since, May 2015 has been based out of Houston. Throughout that time he has specialized in all aspects of borehole seismic. In the mid 90’s he managed the largest ever (at that time) crosswell tomography project to investigate an onshore UK site as a potential underground nuclear repository.

Since 2004 he has been at the forefront of microseismic hydraulic fracture monitoring. He was involved in the development and testing of commercial processing software and built and managed a large specialized processing group in Calgary. During his time in Houston he was the global domain expert for microseismic in Schlumberger.

Over the years he has sought to push borehole seismic technology into areas outside of the traditional oil and gas domain. Consequently, he has been involved in projects in mining, engineering, geothermal and CO2 sequestration.

With two patents and several publications to his name, Richard is an innovative and experienced geophysicist with global domain recognition.
